Through viable material administration framework, it is workable for the organizations to continue with the operational exercises for the association. In this procedure, the administration of the organizations progress in the direction of drafting arrangements for buying the items on an auspicious way. Lack in the gracefully of the merchandise or materials can straightforwardly influence the creation procedure, which at that point impacts the operational costs. this report has been readied venture chief wherein the feature has been done on the methodologies embraced for going into contract. The pertinence of the determination procedure for the providers must be done in the wake of gathering the necessary data. This would help in securing the merchandise at a sensibly lower value (Ballou, 2007). Advancement of purchaser and provider relationship Business techniques assume a key job in the improvement of the organization. for this situation, it is basic to create and present a successful strategy for creating and holding the purchaser/provider relationship. Deficiency of merchants or the flexibly of crude materials for doing the operational exercises for the business impacts the business procedures. Issues identified with crude material can be taken care of in the correct way, as this will empower the administration to do the creation exercises. Along these lines, the crude material obtainment technique must be examined on an auspicious way. Be that as it may, it is difficult to locate the correct kind of providers who can deal with the necessities of the customers. At the hour of choosing the provider for the organization, the operational director consider the underneath referenced components Is the provider sufficiently competent to flexibly the required amount of crude materials on a convenient way? The cost of the merchandise or the crude materials must be sensibly estimated (Barua and Mukhopadhyay, 2000). The quality assessment of the crude materials or the merchandise must be solid Dependability of the seller must be assessed (Burton et al., 2006). Assembling organizations like Toyota has embraced and actualized a successful flexibly chain the board framework. This is basic for keeping up positive and solid relationship with the customers. Toyota guarantees to acquire the crude materials from various providers, in order to continue with the creation exercises with no interferences. At the point when merchandise and crude materials are secured by the organization at the least conceivable value, the organization can progress in the direction of lessening the offer cost to the customers. The firm cost must be chosen in order to overwhelm the degree of rivalry that exists in the business. Value exchange is done based on the de alings that have been gone into between the organization and the customers. Through this procedure, the gatherings progress in the direction of concurring upon the evaluated cost for getting the merchandise at the most minimal conceivable cost. At the hour of choosing the acquisition procedure, the organization needs to consider the vulnerabilities that can affect the creation procedure. In this procedure, it is important to comprehend the agreement life cycle, which is ordered into significant stages like The exercises that should be done before going into the agreement (Craighead et al., 2006). Setting up the tenders and presenting the sameClearly referencing the subtleties identified with the agreements (Gable, Sedera, and Chan, 2008). Subtleties of the agreement The agreement term makes reference to the subtleties of the deals of the items. Through agreement terms, the organization specifies the significant subtleties that are viewed as important for improving the relationship. Agreement terms must be separated according to the administration or organizations. For this situation, the terms for restoring the merchandise or crude materials bought by the providers or the clients must be referenced. Acquisitions the board procedure In this strategy, the procedure that should be trailed by the administration for getting the crude materials from various sources must be chosen by the organization. Through this procedure, the providers must be smoothed out, as this would help in securing the products or crude materials on an opportune way. In this procedure, the agreement subtleties that should be referenced to set out the correct desires with the customers or the providers. The agreement needs to incorporate the specialized archives which will contain the necessary data about the obtainment for the crude materials. It is basic to build up a positive and durable relationship with the providers (Gregor, 2006). Agreements and delicate The organization has drafted a powerful acquirement arrangement, through which the upper hand can be picked up by the administration. Over and under obtainment strategy for the crude materials can make sure about the organization from acquiring extra costs. For this, the organization needs to set up a compelling stock arrangement through which the necessity for the creation exercises should be drafted. This would assist the administration with analyzing the future objectives and draft the best polices through which the creation procedure can be done. In this strategy, the crude material obtainment is done dependent on the creation procedure that has been dictated by the organization. With the assistance of the focused on acquisition strategy, the organization compute or investigate the ideal stock level. This would be helpful in advancing the purchasing arrangements that is required for submitting the request with the providers. In this technique, the buying condition for the crude m aterials must be examined. The cost for the crude materials is one of the significant elements that would need to be considered at the hour of choosing the model. Through such strategy, the administration endeavor to improve the crude material acquirement process. Planned cost and amount of the crude materials must be readied. The agreement must be gone into by the general population and private areas. Decides and guidelines that are required to be referenced on the agreement must be unmistakably referenced. This would help in explaining the terms that is vital for going into the agreement (Gutierrez, 2002). What are my chances of getting an MBA scholarship

What are my chances of getting an MBA scholarship? One of the biggest hurdles to confront when considering an MBA is the cost. Most full-time programs publicize significant scholarships offerings, but applicants should know that earning one of these awards is extremely competitive and certainly not the norm for most MBA candidates. The main reason for this is that top business schools use large scholarships to attract applicants who might otherwise choose a competitor program, or a better ranked school, over their own. In other words, scholarships are a yield tool that business schools use to secure top talent. MBA programs make their universities a lot of money, and investments in recruiting the best possible students pay off by improving class profile statistics, diversity, and other metrics that impact rankings and help attract high-quality candidates in future admissions cycles. If you are looking for a sizable scholarship to help you pay for business school, you will need to be what that program considers a truly exceptional candi date. This isn’t always straightforward however; an 800 on the GMAT may not cut it if you don’t also add bring some element of diversity to the student population. But figuring out exactly what schools are looking for can be tricky and depends largely on institutional priorities. These could be around increasing diversity along any number of measures including underrepresented minorities, women, LGBTQ, geography, profession or industry, as well as growing new academic programs or institutional initiatives. For example, if a school is trying to build up a real estate program or specialization, there may be more scholarship opportunities that year for students who want to specialize and go into real estate after the MBA.This is where the research you put into learning about various programs can pay off. Before you apply, learn as much about a program as possible. How might you add to the program’s diversity? What is your differentiating factor as a candidate? You might have to think long and hard, and dig deep. Even if it doesn’t earn you a scholarship, at the very least, thinking through these points will help you to approach your application and essays with a stronger sense of self (some might say â€Å"personal brand†) and how you will benefit and align with the programs to which you apply.

Designing A Freight Elevator For The Movement Of Goods Business Essay - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 10 Words: 3059 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Engineering Essay Type Analytical essay Did you like this example? There are many types of elevators like hydraulic elevator, Pneumatic vacuum elevator, mine shaft elevator etc. Freight elevator is an elevator which carries freight. A  freight elevator  is used to do just what its name implies: to elevate, or lift,  freight, or goods. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Designing A Freight Elevator For The Movement Of Goods Business Essay" essay for you Create order It is built to carry goods rather than people. The smallest freight elevators are often called dumbwaiters. They are typically used in two-story buildings to move household goods such as laundry or dishes up and down. Though older versions were operated by pulling on a rope, modern dumbwaiters include a small electric motor. A heavy-duty freight elevator can hold a truck and can handle as much as 100,000 pounds using a dual rope system for support  [2] In this activity, we will first explore a possible model for the motion of a heavy-duty freight elevator used to raise and lower equipment and minerals in a mineshaft. We will evaluate the model for its strengths and weaknesses and then create a set of specifications to develop a model of our own. Analyzing a possible model: The possible model y = 2.5t3 15t2 represents the position of the elevator. Here y is in meters and is the vertical displacement. Here y = 0 when the elevator is at ground level. t is time in minutes and the starting time t = 0 minutes. The trip up and down the shaft, ignoring time spent at the foot of the shaft, is approximately six minutes and that the depth of the shaft is no more than 100 meters. I will use graphing software Graph 4.3 to visualize the motion of the elevator in the shaft which is shown below. displacement.png Graph : Displacement graph using the given model function I have calculated the position of the elevator at different time intervals which I have shown in the table below: Time t (minutes) Displacement (meters) 0 0.0 1 -12.5 2 -40.0 3 -67.5 4 -80.0 5 -62.5 Table : Displacement I have calculated the maximum and minimum displacement during the round trip of the elevator. The maximum / minimum d isplacement of the freight elevator during the round trip will be when the slope of the displacement function = 0 that is when velocity v = 0 Therefore = 7.5t2 30t = 0 ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¡Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ t = 0 or 4 minutes. Therefore y (0) = 2.5(0)3 15(0)2 = 0 y(4) = 2.5(4)3 15(4)2 = -80 meters. Hence maximum displacement, ymax = 0 and minimum displacement, ymin = -80 meters. From the above table and graph we can observe the following facts. At time t = 0 and 6 minutes, the displacement is 0. This indicates that the elevator is at ground level at the start and the end of the round trip. Throughout the round trip, from t = 0 to 6 minutes, the displacement is negative. This indicates that the elevator is below the ground level which is evident from the graph also. The elevator descends to a maximum depth of 80 meters which is the ymin value at time t = 4 minutes. The time taken by the elevator to descend the maximum depth of 80 meters is 4 min utes whereas the time taken to ascend the same distance is 2 minutes. Since displacement y(t) = 2.5t3 15t2 meters We know that velocity is rate of change of displacement. Therefore Velocity = = y'(t) = 7.5t2 30t meters/minute Using graphing software I have graphed the velocity function which is shown below. velocity.png Graph : Velocity graph using the given model function I have calculated the velocity of the elevator at different time intervals which I have shown in the table below: Time t (minutes) Velocity v (meters/minute) 0 0.0 1 -22.5 2 -30.0 3 -22.5 4 0.0 5 37.5 6 90.0 Table : Velocity I have calculated the maximum and minimum velocity during the round trip of the elevator. The maximum / minimum velocity of the freight elevator during the round trip will be when the slope of the velocity function = 0 that is when acceleration a = 0 Therefore =15t 30 = 0 ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¡Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢ „ ¢ t = 2 minutes. Therefore velocity is minimum at t = 2 minutes. v(2) = 7.5(2)2 30(2) = -30 meters / minute Since = 15. Therefore v is minimum at t = 2 minutes. v(2) = 7.5(2)2 30(2) = -30 meters/minute Therefore the minimum velocity of the elevator during the round trip is -30 meters/minute. From the above table and graph we can observe the following facts. When t = 0 and 4 minutes, the velocity is 0 meters/minute. It indicates that the elevator is at rest at the bottom of the shaft and at the ground level when it starts descending. During time interval 0 to 4 minutes the velocity is negative. This indicates that the elevator is moving downwards. During time interval 4 to 6 minutes, the velocity is positive. This indicates that the elevator is moving upwards. The minimum velocity is -30 meters/minute at time t = 2 minutes. We know that acceleration is rate of change of velocity. Therefore, Acceleration = = y(t) = 15t 30 meters/minute2 Using graphing software I have graphed the acceleration function which is shown below. accn.png Graph : Acceleration graph using the given model function I have calculated the acceleration of the elevator at different time intervals which I have shown in the table below: Time t (minutes) Acceleration (meters/minute2) 0 -30.0 1 -15.0 2 0.0 3 15.0 4 30.0 5 45.0 Table : Acceleration From the above table and graph we can observe the following facts. When t = 2 minutes, the acceleration is 0 whereas before t = 2 minutes it is negative and after t = 2 minutes it is positive. This indicates that the acceleration is changing its direction at time t = 2 minutes. During time interval t = 0 to 2 minutes, the acceleration is negative. This indicates that acceleration is in the downward direction. During time interval t = 2 to 6 minutes, the acceleration is positive. This indicates that acceleration is in the upward direction. I have graphed all the three displacement, velocity and acceleration functions together for comparison which is shown below. displ, vel.accn together.png Graph : Displacement, Velocity and Acceleration graphs using the given model function I have also combined all the values of displacement, velocity and acceleration at different time intervals for a comparative study as shown below. Time t (minutes) Displacement (meters) Velocity v (meters/minute) Acceleration a (meters/minute2) 0 0.0 0.0 -30.0 1 -12.5 -22.5 -15.0 2 -40.0 -30.0 0.0 3 -67.5 -22.5 15.0 4 -80.0 0.0 30.0 5 -62.5 37.5 45.0 6 0.0 90.0 60.0 Table : Displacement, velocity and acceleration. I have analyzed all the three displacement, velocity and acceleration together during the three time intervals as below. Between 0 to 2 minutes. During this time interval at t = 0 minutes, the displacement is 0 meters and a t time t = 2 minutes, the displacement is -40 meters. This indicates that the elevator is at ground level at the starting of the time interval and descends 40 meters by the end of this time interval which is also the half of the downward displacement of the elevator. During this time interval at t = 0 minutes, the velocity is 0 meters/minute and at time t = 2 minutes, the velocity is -30 meters/minute which is the minimum velocity of the elevator in the full trip. In this time interval the magnitude of the velocity is increasing. The negative values of velocity indicate that the elevator is moving downwards. During this time interval at t = 0 minutes, the acceleration is -30 meters / minute2 and at time t = 2 minutes, the acceleration is 0 meters / minute2. This indicates that the magnitude of the acceleration is decreasing in this time interval. In this time interval, the direction of both velocity and acceleration is same and downwards hence the acceleration helps the ele vator to speed up and the magnitude of the velocity increases. Between 2 to 4 minutes. During this time interval, at t = 4 minutes, the displacement is -80 meters. This indicates that the elevator is at the bottom of the round trip at the end of the time interval. Therefore during this interval of 2 to 4 minutes; the displacement is -40 meters. The elevator descends 40 meters during this time interval which is also the half of the downward displacement of the elevator. During this time interval at t = 2 minutes, the velocity is -30 meters/minute and at time t = 4 minutes, the velocity is 0 meters/minute. Therefore the elevator reaches its lowest point of the trip at time t = 4 minutes. In this time interval the magnitude of the velocity is decreasing. The negative values of velocity indicate that the elevator is moving downwards. During this time interval at t = 2 minutes, the acceleration is 0 meters / minute2 and at time t = 4 minutes, the acceleration is 30 meters/min ute2. This indicates that the magnitude of the acceleration is increasing in this time interval. The acceleration is positive during this time interval which indicates that the acceleration is upwards. In this time interval, both velocity and acceleration are in opposite direction. The acceleration is in the upward direction whereas the velocity is in downwards direction and the magnitude of the velocity is decreasing during this time interval. This indicates that, when the acceleration is in the opposite direction of the velocity, the velocity decreases. Between 4 to 6 minutes. During this time interval, at t = 6 minutes, the displacement is 0 meters. This indicates that the elevator is at the bottom of the round trip at the starting of the time interval and is at the ground level at the end of this time interval. Therefore during this interval of 4 to 6 minutes; the displacement is 80 meters. The elevator ascends 80 meters during this time interval which is the full ascen ds of the elevator. Therefore the elevator takes only 2 minutes to move from the lowest point of the trip to the ground level. During this time interval at t = 4 minutes, the velocity is 0 meters/minute and at time t = 6 minutes, the velocity is 90 meters/minute. The velocity is positive during this time interval and the elevator is moving upwards. Therefore the elevator reaches the ground level again at time t = 6 minutes and completes its trip. In this time interval the magnitude of the velocity is increasing. During this time interval at t = 4 minutes, the acceleration is 30 meters / minute2 and at time t = 6 minutes, the acceleration is 60 meters/minute2. This indicates that the magnitude of the acceleration is increasing in this time interval. The acceleration is positive during this time interval which indicates that the acceleration is upwards. In this time interval, both velocity and acceleration are in the same direction. Both the velocity and acceleration are in t he upward direction. The magnitude of the velocity is increasing during this time interval. This indicates that, when the both velocity and acceleration are in the same direction, the magnitude of the velocity increases. Conclusion: When both the velocity and accelerations are of the same sign that is they are in the same direction. The acceleration helps velocity and the magnitude of the velocity increases. When the velocity and the accelerations are of different signs that is they are in the opposite directions. The acceleration acts as retardation and decreases the magnitude of the velocity. Usefulness of the model function: The possible model function y = 2.5t3 15t2 models the complete round the trip motion by a single function. Problems in the model function: The main drawback of the given model function is that the elevator does not come to rest at the end of the trip when it returns back to the ground level. The velocity is 90 meters/minute at t = 6 minutes whereas the velocity should be 0 meters/minute. As per the model function, the elevator takes 4 minutes to descend to the bottom and only 2 minutes to ascend back to the ground level. This indicates that it takes double the time in descend compared to the time required to ascend. Since this is a vertical motion and gravitational force provides a gravitational acceleration downwards which always helps any object to move downwards and opposes any object to move upwards. Therefore the gravitational acceleration is helping the elevator while descending and opposing the elevator while ascending but the elevator takes half the time while ascending which means that the source of force required to take the elevator up has to be more powerful. This increases the cost of the equipment and operation. Using this model function the elevator can descend only up to a depth of 80 meters whereas the depth of the mineshaft is 100 meters. So the elevator can never reach the bottom of the mine shaft using this model function. Creating our own model: I tried to gather information for the speeds of freight elevators from the internet. The speeds of the heavy duty freight elevators manufactured by Hitachi Ltd., Japan are 30, 45 metres/minute.  [3] I have selected the maximum speed of freight elevator for my model as 45 meters/minute. Therefore the specification for redesigned freight elevator model is: The depth of the mine shaft the freight elevator has to descend is 100 metres. The maximum speed of the freight elevator is 45 metres/minute. The freight elevator takes equal time in descending and ascending from ground level to the depth of the mine shaft. The speed of the freight elevator is 0 meters/minute at the ground level, whether the freight elevator is starting from or reaching the ground, and at the bottom of the shaft. Looking at the above specifications, especially The freight elevator takes equal time during descending and ascending, which means that the displacement function graph is symmetri cal during ascend and descend. The elevator velocity is zero at the beginning, middle and at the end of the trip. The function which can suit the above requirements can be a sinusoidal cosine function. The cosine function starts from the maximum value 1 and ends at the maximum value 1. Also the cosine function is at its lowest value -1 at the middle of its cycle. Also the slope of the cosine function at these three points is zero and is symmetrical; hence it satisfies all the requirements of the model function. Therefore I will try a cosine function. The general cosine function is given by y(x) = A cos (Bx + C) + D. Here, A is the amplitude of the cosine function which is the difference between the peak and mean of the maximum and minimum y coordinates. B is given by B = where T is the time period and is the distance between the two successive maxima or minima. C is the horizontal translation of a normal cosine graph. This is negative when the graph is transl ated to the right and is positive when the graph is translated to the left. Its value is the horizontal shift of the point cosine (0) from the origin (0, 0). D is the vertical translation of the mean of the normal cosine function given by the mean of maxima and minima of y value. D is negative when the graph is translated downwards and is positive when the graph is translated upwards. Since I have taken the maximum depth of descend of the elevator to be 100 meters from the ground level. Therefore ymax = 0 and ymin = -100, therefore Amplitude, A= = 50 B = Horizontal translation, C = 0 Vertical translation, D = Substituting these values of A, B, C and D in the general equation of the cosine function I get the model displacement function as below: y(t) = = ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦.(1) Therefore , Velocity v = = and, ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦..(2) Acceleration a = ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦(3) Now in the above model equations the only unknown is the time period or we can say the time required for the elevator one round trip. In our specification of the model function I have specified that the maximum magnitude of the velocity of the elevator will be 45 meters/minute. Now the velocity v can be maximum when sin = -1. Therefore maximum velocity, Vmax = = 45 meters/minute Therefore T = 6.98 minutes. Therefore our model displacement, velocity and acceleration functions will be Displacement, y(t) = meters Velocity v(t) = meters/minute Acceleration a(t) = meters/minute2 I have graphed the above model functions for visual check. cosine displ.bmp Graph : Remodeled displacement graph cosine velocity.bmp Graph : Remodeled velocity graph cosine accn.bmp Graph : Remodeled acceleration graph I have calculated the values of displacement, velocity and acceleration at different time intervals which is shown in the table below. Time t (minutes) Displacement 50 cos(0.9t) 50 (meters) Velocity 45 sin () (meters/minute) Acceleration 40.5 cos () (meters/minute2) 0.00 0.00 0.00 -40.50 1.75 -50.00 -45.00 0.00 3.49 -100.00 0.00 40.50 5.24 -50.00 45.00 0.00 6.98 0.00 0.00 -40.50 Table : Displacement, velocity and acceleration as per the remodeled function From the above graphs and table we can see that the velocity is 0 meters/minute a t time, t = 0, 3.49 and 6.98 meters when the elevator is at ground, bottom of the shaft and ground level again. The elevator descends a depth of 100 meters at t = 3.49 minutes which is half of the time taken for round trip. Therefore the elevator descends to the bottom of the mine shaft. The displacement graph is symmetrical and the time required for descend and ascend is 3.49 minutes which means that the elevator takes equal time in descend as well as ascend. The remodeled function is single function, which take cares of all the drawbacks of the original model function. Hence I accept this remodeled function as my final model function. I will modify my remodel functions for a high speed passenger elevator. From the same web site of Hitachi limited, I gathered that the speed of passenger elevators is 180, 210 and 240 meters/minute. I will design a displacement, velocity and acceleration function for a passenger elevator with the following specification. The height the passenger elevator has to ascend is 240 meters and the maximum speed of the elevator is 240 meters/minute. Using this specification, I will remodel my function as below. Amplitude, A= = 120 B = Horizontal translation, C = Vertical translation, D = Substituting these values of A, B, C and D in the general equation of the cosine function I get the model displacement function as below: y(t) = = ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦.(1) Therefore, Velocity v = = and, ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚ ¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦..(2) Acceleration a = ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ÃƒÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦(3) Now in the above model equations the only unknown is the time period or we can say the time required for the elevator one round trip. In our specification of the model function I have specified that the maximum magnitude of the velocity of the elevator will be 240 meters/minute. Now the velocity v can be maximum when sin = 1. Therefore maximum velocity, Vmax = = 240 meters/minute Therefore T = 3.14 minutes. Therefore our model displacement, velocity and acceleration functions will be Displacement, y(t) = meters Velocity v(t) = 240 meters/minute Acceleration a(t) = mete rs/minute2 I have graphed the three functions for visual analysis as below. cosine displ paasenger.bmp Graph : Displacement graph for passenger elevator cosine velocity passenger.bmp Graph : Velocity graph for passenger elevator cosine acceleration passenger.bmp Graph : Acceleration graph for passenger elevator Form the above graphs we can see that with slight modifications of the model cosine function, it meets all the requirements of the high speed passenger elevator. So we can modify the cosine function so that the same can be adapted to any other similar application.

Occupy Walstreet and Government Essays - Films, Margin Call, Broker

What would you do? Most people think that in similar situations they would behave differently. The truth is most people would do whatever they had to, to maintain their best interest. In the movie ?Margin Call? the investment bank brokers are faced with a difficult decision. They find out that the company that the work for is about to go under and managers and CEO make the decision to sell the company to other brokers as soon as possible so that they can save themselves. Kevin Spacey?s character is the manager of the Risk management department and seems more interested in the failing health of his dog than the fate of his employees that have been randomly selected to be terminated. Jeremy Irons plays the self absorbed CEO who?s only concern is his own financial stability. Simon Baker?s character is second in command and Demi Moore?s, Stanley Tucci?s character is fired after many years of service. Although he receives a severance package he is understandably upset when he learns that he has lost his job. Before leaving the building he gives Penn Badgley?s character a young broker some sensitive information and tells him that he has been working on it for a while but was unable to finish it and ask him to finish it but warns him to be careful. Because of the information the young broker finds the company his disassembled within twenty four hours. There are several dilemmas in this movie. Some of the dilemmas are obvious, but others are less noticeable. The first is should he tell and if so who should he tell. After spilling the beans he is quickly whisked into a meeting, where he witnesses the decision making process to sell a company because of his discovery. The choices made in the film could be seen as ruthless or necessary. Either way people were going to lose their jobs but the question could be if compromising their integrity and still losing their jobs was the best option. Decisions are often hard to make but in this instance the decisions had more losers than winners. Business minded people may thing the choice to sell before the company was worthless was the right decision, others may feel that people are more. Employees are people; many have families that rely on their income, and their benefits. Though this was a movie it was based on actual events, it had such real elements that it seems plausible that this scenario could have very well have played out in a conference room during the early stages of the housing crisis.

Sculpture and Archetectorial Ideas of the 5th Century essays

Sculpture and Archetectorial Ideas of the 5th Century essays The sculptural and architectural ideas during the 5th century do show some signs of classical works. At the same time, they show many signs of beginning to break apart from those traditional ideas. First, let us discuss the sculptural ideas. Much of the format for this work is still an upright figure, in line with traditional sculpture, but with some noticeable differences. One of the examples of this is the Riace Warriors. These statues are in the upright posture referred to as the kouros posture; as were most classical sculptures, but some very noticeable differences do exist. For example, the stances of the warriors are different, in that one foot is in front of the other, appearing to rest weight mostly on one of the feet. The shoulder is also lowered; this too is different from traditional sculpture. The most noticeable difference between the Archaic and classical styles in the Riace Warriors is the facial expression. Here the warriors expression is much more serious, rather tha n the smiling face seen in many previous works. The new facial expression gives a look of power and intelligence. Another difference that can be seen in the 5th century sculpture is the amount of realism put into the work. The Athenians of this time believed that they were vastly superior in intellectual thought, which can be validated in their thought process to begin doing things in a new and better way. A great example of this is the statue of Discobolos. The maker of this sculpture, Myron, pays special attention to muscular definition, and facial expression. He also captures the man in the middle of physical activity, as opposed to simply standing still or simply looking like he is posing. The confidence and intellectual superiority the Athenians believed they had begun to come out in their work during this period. The height of Greek architecture was also during the 5th century, from c.450- 430 BCE. The Athenians now had funds that they w ...

Choose one of the following readings from the course textbook - Research Paper Example He described dilemma of loyalty when someone enters into an agreement or becomes a part of system. When the system requires from a person to perform a certain task with which he/she disagrees, he is either loyal to the moral standards or to the system; keeping in mind that loyalty is also a moral standard. Why did Milgram’s subject obey and shock the learner? Or less specifically why do people obey authorities even when the orders involve harm to another person? (Meyer, J, 1997) to find the logical reasons and to see them from psychological aspect, this search helped a great deal. Several people were tested psychologically to see the reactions and obedience level in the presence of legitimate authority. Not only they subsided the moral or ethical obligations but also continued to follow commands to inflict pain on an innocent person. Though many of them were not in favor of what they did to the learner but they seem incapable of protesting the wrong. Most of them were dealing with an inside fight which was visible through their gestures and body language but the ability to deny the wrong was less likely seen during the experiment. The common misinterpretation was observed in all the teachers (subjects) was sympathy within is irrelevant unless it changed into action to perform moral obligation. Similarly the control of any government can be seen through action and thus is effective, when performing the action requires to. People in the experiment disvalued their actions but were unable to assemble the inner courage to depict their values into action. The resul ts explained the behaviors of Hitler’s army, who obeyed him and continued the process of torture and killings of million. Milgram’s experiments tested several people. Three people involving at the time of experiment, were instructor ( the authority), subject 1( teacher) and subject2( learner). They both meet the instructor whom they were to follow. The

Experience on Placement in Social Services in Mauritius Essay

Experience on Placement in Social Services in Mauritius - Essay Example On the second week I attended a seminar hosted by Befrienders organisation which is a member of MACOSS, Befrienders was founded by Ibhoo Mansoor in 1995. Its main aim is to prevent suicide which amounts to 300 per year in Mauritius, it operates 48 countries with 400 hundred centres and 60,000 trained voluntary workers. Its activities involve organising talks and public awareness programs. The talk involved the emphasising of the high suicide rate in Mauritius which amounts to 300 deaths a year; the majority of persons involved are persons between the ages of 13 years to 35 years. Suicides is the act of wilfully ending ones life. Some of the causes of suicide include depression, mental illness, hopelessness, poverty and hardship, religious reasons as in the case of suicide bombing and crime where criminals commit suicide before they are caught up with. Suicide however can be prevented through the introduction of crisis intervention centres, restriction of access to common methods of suicide, treatment of depression, reduction of alcohol and substance use and the education based interventions to boost self esteem. (http://www.who.int/mental_health/en/) On my third week I went to work with the EDYCS group, it is a non governmental organisation which was founded in 1997, its main objective is to improve the health and quality of life of people who surfer from epilepsy. I visited the epilepsy health service centre which helps people learn more about epilepsy, visit people suffering from the disease, organising seminars and conferences and fund the people who need urgently need health attention. Epilepsy is a chronic neurological condition which is characterized by recurring epileptic seizers. This disease can not be cured but can be controlled. It is caused by parasitic infections, head injury, stroke and complications in pregnant women. Treatment is through medication, special diets and implantation of the vagus nerve which reduce the frequency of seizure. On the fourth week I went to a nursing home with mentally ill people, it was set aside for the elderly. My activities included helping out in giving medication to the sick, undertaking role calls, helping in feeding, provision of guidance and counselling and helping out in the cleaning process which included laundry. On the fifth week I went to the friends in hope organisation, whose purpose is to provide care and support to person's mental illness. This organisation was founded in 1997 by relatives of people suffering from psychotic disorders. The main aims of this organisation is to provide public awareness on psychotic disorders, rehabilitation of patients, and improvement of administration of persons suffering from these disorders. Through my experience with these organisations I have gained a lot in the provision of human services to various needy people

Descriptive Essay Example for Free

Descriptive Essay What do I do with my leisure time? Well that’s a funny question, because I don’t have much of it. When I get some extra time I enjoy flying with my good friend Sam. Since Sam is teaching me how to fly, I’ll be able to share all the wonderful and majestic views with you. There’s nothing like a little adrenaline rush at the end of the day. Before we get in the plane, we walk around it, check the oil, the tire pressure and climb up on the wing and open the gas cap on both wings to make sure there is enough fuel. We check the gauges to make sure they work; they always do but that’s all part of inspecting the plane. Once we are done with our preflight inspections we untie the plane and remove the chucks from under the tires. Then we get into the small cockpit. Then we adjust our green leather seats to the proper place, where the seat is comfortable for each one of us; since we do want to be comfortable when flying. The first thing that we do is grab the yoke(the steering wheel) and turn it left and right, and forward and back, to make sure the flight controls are free and correct. When all of that is complete we are ready to turn on the power. Sam turns on the master switch and all the electronics and avionics come on with a beeping or ringing noise. The dashboard looks like a Christmas tree all lit up. Next the key goes in the ignition. That’s when I have to turn the key past the right and left magneto position to start the propeller. Then the propeller goes around a couple of times, which sounds like an oversized fan being turned on, and the plane has been started. He then adjusts his gauges and we put on our head phones. As I put on my headphones I can hear other people talking on the radio. We then tune into the common traffic advisory frequency and we taxi for take-off. In order to take off properly, you have to take off into the wind; so we watch the flag to see which way the wind is blowing. That helps you to determine which runway to use and the direction we will be heading. Then we head to the runway for take-off. Once we are lined up with the proper runway he gives me the nod to let me know we are getting ready for take-off. I let him know that we are ready to go by giving him thumbs up for good luck and a great big cheesy smile. Then he gives the plane full throttle; that’s when the sound of the plane is at full blast. That’s when the fun starts. When our airspeed is around sixty MPH he pulls back on the yoke and we start to leave the smooth landing strip starting towards our beautiful destination. We usually climb out around 400 feet per minute; passing all the beautiful tree tops. On a clear day in about five minutes if we take off from Millville airport, we can see all the wonderful Atlantic City lights in one direction. We’ll also be able to see Philadelphia and Delaware too. When it’s a clear day, preferably almost time for sunset, we usually like to fly over the water. We always get the best views in the world that way of the sunset. Usually that day I’ll bring my camera so I can get some outstanding pictures; I could probably sell those pictures. The unbelievable colors from the water and the sun, it’s just priceless. When it’s a cloudy day we will try to fly up to the clouds and find an opening to fly above the clouds. That’s when the altimeter reads 5000 feet, that’s when I know we reached the place I enjoy the most. You just can’t imagine the beauty in the clouds until you’ve experienced it yourself. No words really can describe the views. That’s my favorite part, not that I don’t enjoy the whole ride, but it is absolutely the most majestic place in the sky, towering clouds everywhere. It’s almost like looking at snowy mountains. He will usually get on the radar at this point since we can’t really see anything around us but clouds. This way we can keep track of every other plane around us. Meanwhile, we are all telling each other over the radio how wonderful the views are. As we continue to take in our unbelievable views we notice it’s starting to get late and we are in need to get fuel also. As we come to the end of our plane ride, we start to head back. On our way back down from the majestic clouds we happen to have a few geese flying parallel with us. They were soaring thru the clouds and all around us. We call into the traffic advisory to make sure the runway is clear for our landing. They let us know we are all clear to make a landing. Then we circle the airport, so we can line up with the runway and get ready for our landing. We then start to descend from our majestic trip up to the clouds; we are coming in fast. We start to see the beautiful tree tops again. We hit the landing strip, it’s a little on the bumpy side, then it starts to smooth out. Then we start to slow down and come to a crawl. We then drive the plane slowly to our parking spot where we park the plane. Then we begin to shut the plane down. We turn the propellers off and all the electronics and avionics off. We then adjust our seats and get out of the plane. Now is the hard part of the whole day. We both have to push the plane back into its parking spot. Then we tie down the plane and put chucks under the wheels. We do this, so if a gust of wind comes through it doesn’t blow the plane away; since that does happen. I would have to say flying is best for leisure time, since this is what I enjoy doing the most when it comes to having leisure time. When it comes to leisure, you are supposed to do something you enjoy doing. That’s why I fly for leisure, since it’s a big adrenaline rush for me but it also is very relaxing for me at the same time. So if you ever want to take a ride with Sam and I just let me know and you’ll get to see all the wonderful things we have seen and some.

Essay About Family: Staying Afloat :: Personal Narrative essay about my family

Staying Afloat My family is having major issues. Mom is not getting beaten and we aren't starving to death, but I can definitely tell that things are escalating. I'm not even sure what the problem is. All four of us used to sit down to dinner, telling about the day's events and being friendly. I can't remember the last time that Dad and I went fishing or our family went on vacation. Now we are all so far apart that we don't know anything about one another. Our situation now is a stop at the fridge for the twice-reheated meal that used to be dinner. With Mom working a fourteen-hour day at Cypress Park Elementary, Dad's business speeding up and slowing down with no warning, and Jeff and I now in high school and participating in extracurricular activities after school, it's not surprising that we are falling apart. * * * It seems we have a solution to the decline in family togetherness. Mom, being a principal has always had a huge heart for her students. Apparently one in particular has caught her eye and shoved her into action. A little girl named Lindsey attending Mom's school is going to be coming to live with us. I don't know the whole story on her but apparently her mom died when she was real young and after bouncing in and out of several foster homes, as well as the courts with her dad she is in need of another family. I've met her before, visiting Mom at her hellhole of a school. Lindsey is in the after school program along with all of the other poor, filthy, and pathetic looking kids you wish you could take home. For me, its almost unbearable visiting Mom's school. I always feel guilty, like my life is too easy compared to what these kids deal with; alcohol, drugs, abuse, they've seen it all. She is pretty much the cutest kid I've ever seen, and I admit, the idea of being her big brother is r eally appealing, but I'm not really sure how adding another member to our strife is going to bring us closer. What I got from the master plan that Mom, and especially Dad, explained to me is that when Lindsey comes it is with hope that we will be able to give her the structure and support by providing her with positive role models and examples of "correct" behavior, that she needs in order to break out of all the bad influences and habits that she has had instilled in her from her environment.

kiwiberry2900 3/9/2013 MGMT 541 Self-reflection paper Motivation Motivation represents psychological processes that cause arousal, direction, and persistence of voluntary actions that are goal directed. There are substantial positive relations between job characteristics, satisfaction, and motivation. Job characteristics of Variety and Task Significance were found to be particularly important to employee satisfaction and motivation. These are examples that almost everyone will encounter in real life: Job design and job enrichment My work experience when I was in Shanghai was with the Taxation Bureau. Initially I was assigned general work in the department such as doing tax registration for the new companies and I wasn’t motivated. The job was simple, just checking and cataloging all of the documents that the company representatives provided, and giving them the application forms. I also answered related questions and followed up after the companies with the tax license were san ctioned. At this job position, the skill varieties were very limited. The routine work was just following the rules and did not need any professional judgment. After a month or so, I felt bored. Besides the skill variety, the job also lacked autonomy. Sometimes I just went out for some reason, probably there were several company representatives were waiting for me, while other time there is nobody show up in a whole day. As a young woman, I can’t further myself in the job, anyone can do it. I had no progress, no satisfaction about the job and no intrinsic motivation.Although the tasks were significant to the whole bureau, it is hard to see our bigger function of the organization. In the end, after I pleased the human resources department several times, I was allowed to join another department. A lot of young people did not like to be fixed on a general position which would not allow them to accumulate the professional experience and explore the deep side of the field, and that often makes a problem in the hierarchical organization. Equity theory The Shanghai Taxation Bureau in which I had worked for more than 10 years is a hierarchical organization including a lot of levels. It is the administrative and management body that carries out the state’s taxation activities within the administrative jurisdiction of Shanghai Municipality. Its main functions and responsibilities include implementing state taxation laws, regulations and codes, researching and formulating tax development plans and annual work plans for local taxation. The administrative position involves supervising every month’s tax declaration and collection and making sure the money will be transferred into the state treasury according to the related laws, regulations and codes. There are 26 branches attached to the taxation bureau, and over 10000 employees working in the shanghai taxation bureau. Big organizations necessitate more comparison between people, or between branches. Peop le from every section seek to get equal benefits out of their input. There are a lot of couples in Shanghai taxation bureau. So if some branches gave the bonus to their employees, everyone in the whole system knew it. And afterwards other departments will mimic the policy to motivate theirs. That reflected the equity theory. From the equity theory, an individual’s motivation level is correlated to his perception of equity, fairness and justice practiced by the management. The higher an individual’s perception of fairness is, the greater their motivation level and vice versa. In the above context, I remembered that the branch leader who first gave the bonus will emphasize the special task they have completed, in order to stimulate his employees who have experienced high level hardship or difficulties. But other branches will spotlight their own achievements in the assignment, ultimately got the same bonus to protect or comfort their own morale in the workplace. In the yea r-end evaluation, every branch or individual will assess their own projects and achievements in the whole year and the human resource management would make overall balances and give different levels of reward. While some job positions comparatively have more opportunities to make achievements, others have less. Under that kind of situation, the management carried out the policy of job position rotation, therefore, almost every qualified employee with education history of financial and accounting would have the opportunities to rotate their positions. This policy is motivational, Extrinsic motivation and intrinsic otivation At my department people were driven by extrinsic motivation. We compared the bonus income, the benefit to others and calculated the upcoming income or vacation. We also expected to be promoted and got high level benefits. As if that is the core of our daily tasks. Sometimes we did some project according to superior’s will rather than the real information to avoid offending the leader. We even did not consider whether the result was meaningful or not. Although the department management wanted to motivate the employees and gave the gift cards to everyone before the festivals, we were not satisfied. We wanted to get more benefits comparing with employees at other branches. From the theoretic framework, these are hygiene factors which would not make people satisfied. Sometimes we got into research projects and worked with the other teammates. These were independent projects. The person in charge the project totally explained the purpose of the project and we felt we got involved and engaged. We were empowered to use our own way to collect data, analyze it, and draw the conclusion. We felt very satisfied in these projects. We cooperated with each other, attracted by the task, and we can focus solely on the project without complicated interpersonal relationships inside of this kind of temporary group. Further more, it was different from our r outine job, which gave us the opportunity to widen our view, enrich the job content, therefore satisfying all the teammates. This arrangement is like intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that is driven by an interest or enjoyment in the task itself, and exists within the individual rather than relying on external pressures or a desire for reward.Leadership From my experience, people want to motivate each other. He should build up himself first, has a long-term vision about the organizations, sets a goal for himself, matches the big environment and has the necessary ability or expertise in some area. Then he should also be authorized to be a leader. He may use his social skill and other ability and management resources to motivate people, and bring them together to a higher level. In my personal experience, I met good leaders as well as bad leaders. When I was a volunteer in a nonprofit organization at Chicago, I was elected as a member of the board of trust ees. In this setting, the president is our board leader and he displayed a typical bad leader profile. First of all, he is not a role model. He should have a positive attitude, and be supportive to every volunteer, but unfortunately he always escaped working hard and treated other volunteers like slaves. Secondly, he did not consider the opinions of other board members, he liked to be self-centered and lack of empathy. This character embodied in his schedule and his arrangement. He had no expert power, his personality is awful and he even played tricks in the nonprofit organization, which made everybody astonished. Now he had lost in the election for the board members. Admittedly, the situation above is very unique. Generally most authorized leaders have some attractive traits such as self-awareness, self-confidence, social skills and persuasive abilities. At the same time, they fully understand the organization goals. But different leaders have their own personal features. My friend Fan is a director of the audit department.I had been in his department for 3 years, and we became friends in the end. Fan is a veteran, he had little professional knowledge in auditing, but he knew management well. His job is to motivate all the auditing group leaders and auditors. He used his legitimate power at first to assign tasks to every group. After the tasks were finished, he gave all the evaluation report to every group with the help of his assistant. At the same time, he used his reward and referent power. He always kept the department on the way of organizational goal, showed his positive attitude, gave everybody most extent of autonomy. He also used his personal relationship to strive for the best interest of our department. That is why he got everyone’s respect. In his department, morale is very high. Nobody wanted to leave. Ahthough Fan is a good leader in most aspects except his professional knowledge, he can’t exert his expert power in his leadership. A great leader is a natural leader, who can exert his idealized influence power to his followers, and help to set common goals for the whole organization, incorporate, motivate followers, have them a clear picture of the future, make them active beyond the call of the duty.Bibliography Kreitner, Robert, and Angelo Kinicki. Intelligent Design An Intelligent Way of Disguising Religion

Could Adam and Eve have been apes? Evolutionists say humans evolved from apes, but many religious people cannot swallow the thought. For years, religious people have voiced their unhappiness that schools teach evolution. The Bible says that God put all the plants, animals, and people on this planet, and evolution completely contradicts that. The idea of including creationism in schools has been brought to courts multiple times but with no success. Now the creationists have a new way of presenting it. They disguise it behind science and use the term Intelligent Design. Intelligent Design is a form of creationism under new terminology and is the attempt of many to incorporate religion into school systems and science education; it has no†¦show more content†¦Instead, they claim, some aspects of those organisms must have been created, fully formed, by a so-called ‘intelligent designer’† (McMaster). Anybody can notice that the words Intelligent Designer and God are synonymous which makes it a religious belief. One of the most recent and important court cases focusing on Intelligent Design is Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District (Matsumura). Dover High School fought to have Intelligent Design mentioned as a theory in science classes alongside the theory of evolution and to provide students with access to an Intelligent Design textbook (McMaster). In the end, Dover School District lost the case, but Intelligent Design gained much attention. Although Intelligent Design lost, that does not mean it will stop fighting. Intelligent Design claims to differ from creationism, but, truly, it is a more publicly accepted form of creationism. The most obvious difference between Intelligent Design and creationism is that Intelligent Design does not directly state who did the designing, nor does it affiliate itself with any religious texts like the Bible. Public high schools should allow a course in intelligent design to be included in the curriculum as a way of teaching both evolution and creationism without violating the separation of church and state.
